( We interrupt your regularly scheduled sinister updates for a casual transmission viewable by all. A chirpy, scantily clad mademoiselle takes stage introducing, one at a time, portraits or visual footage of various dragons as she names them. )

Laaaaaaaaadiiiiiiies and gentlemen! Wait no more, wonder less, time to meet this year’s fiery dragon contenders who’ll fall head and smoulder for each other, in the latest, scaled-up season of…

DRAGON BACHELOR

DARIUS

He’s… moderately tall. Not particularly exercised. His rider… gave up after the third day of mounting. His nestmates say, ‘Bro, we all know you’re drooling, not flaming,’ and ‘His mother has to come pick up his scales every week.’ He never woke up in time for the war. He’s looking for a girl who can char his meat, keep his nest tidy, has no male dragon friends and has reeeeaaaallllll thick wing curves. He has zero aspirations, but he knows the 10,000 actual gold pieces he invested to buy an invisible magical coin token will one day rake in big.

He is Darius, and he is our… Dragon Bachelor. And he needs your help to find a bride. Although, like. Any girl would be lucky to have a nice guy like him.

the blushing brides )

Now, viewers, you know the ropes: they say you can't be lucky in both love and money, but Dragon Bachelor is here to prove common wisdom wrong. Every fine gentleman and lovely lady can put their house-paid 10,000-coin chip forward on their pick for handsome Darius's bride. What a catch!

If the stars blink your way, and Darius chooses your guess... you earn ten times the reward. Don't forget! You can always take advantage of the cheeky virgin sacrifice option and put down the names of other prospective brides. Cast your vote, and let the best dragon gall win!

( ooc: Rules of engagement:
— every character can bet 10,000, free of charge. The house covers the first token.
— Vote here on your dragon lady of choice — remember, persuade your colleagues to vote the same way, and you increase your odds of winning! Just pitch the virtues of your preferred dragon lady.
— Alternatively, suggest a character as a 'virgin sacrifice' (virginity optional) to appease mighty Darius, and vote to get them into the next round. You can also assume a well-meaning NPC put your character's name down. Why not?
— This is open to everyone, irrespective of whether they were assigned to Eidris or Minaras. It has 0% plot bearing. Make it rain.
— You can treat this as a regular network post and threadjack to your hearts' content.

[ it's a video! And Kaneki is at what looks exactly like a morgue because he is at a morgue. To the left there is a dead person, and he will talk about it in a moment. To the right, his cursed doll is sitting at a table, immobile this time; she had a bit of a makeover ever since arriving to Serthica. Currently he is wearing a white coat, just like a doctor would (spoiler alert: he is not a doctor)]

Good evening, I hope everyone has settled in, in this... steam-punk city. [ a pause ] I feel like we might go through every literary genre at this point.

Anyway - [ Kaneki rises some papers he will be reading from as he approaches the dead body ] I was given a job as a mortician. [ how fitting ] and I can tell you a little bit about what I have seen here.

There is some sort of affliction, even in healthy looking bodies. A rot - [ and that's when he shows the dead body up close. There is a rotting look to it, green and festering, inside the abdomen ] It shows in abdomen and muscles. Also, the bodies decompose at a strange rate. None of them seem to follow a normal human pattern for decomposition, some too slow or some too fast. Honestly, I'm not a doctor so I only know what I read in medical books, but I haven't found information on this. [ he puts the papers away and walks away from the body ]

Lastly, during that eventful summit, some of the delegates started acting weird when Minaras rose. I can't put my finger on it, but there was a strange smell. They smelled human, they are human. But- [ he pauses, frowning a little. How is he supposed to describe a scent? ] It was just not normal. There are others in this city that smell like that, some of the bodies that arrive here, too. It's not everywhere but it's--

I can't recognize it. And no, the rotting bodies are unrelated to that smell, I have checked.

So, this is the information I currently have. If anyone has anything to add, I'd love to hear it.

[Maybe Five thought Moran was joking when he said he would make an announcement. Turns out, he was not.]

Greetings, fellow travelers.

Now that we are once more on solid ground, I have no doubt our days will be very busy, but as it is, we still have matters to discuss pertaining to our previous trip.

The artefact that was used to call out the giant sea monster, a human tongue which has been ascertained to still be 'alive' in spite of being separated from the rest of its body, is presently under the guard of Master Five.

[See how he didn't say you stole it and tried to hide it, Five? That's his one concession to your pride.]

It is the second such artefact we are now carrying, following the heart that is in Master Kaneki's possession as well. And so far we cannot ascertain their origin, or if they might belong to the same individual or not. And given their power, the question comes to us of what to do with them.

There have been some in favor of destroying them, others wanting to study them. both are, at present, warded, but there is no telling that we might be able to keep containing them for any length of time, and we have all seen what happens when they are not contained.

Their relation to the mirrors, and the undead, is also still nebulous. I think we found out there was at least one mirror on one of the ships, but has someone found out if it was used and what for?

Lady Emilia also judiciously mentioned that they seem to have the ability to excite beasts, which was also a power the Beastmaster possessed, and the Beastmaster was the first we learned of the original and most powerful undead possible being made with mirrors.

I do not believe the fate of those objects should be decided by one alone, given that they can affect us all, and those around us. So what do you think we should do with them?

We are all sharing information, aren't we? My turn.

[ Kaneki is sitting on a hammock. Besides him there is a doll, which some people may remember or may not (yes, he still has it). And the neighbour hammock is barely seen but anyone can guess what is happening: there are moans and sighs and some suspicious movement. Yes, two people are having sex right besides him. Kaneki is too tired to fight any of this. ]

Don't mind them. That's my... fortune. From the fish. [ oh yeah. kaneki has been dealing with that since the trip begun. And he is about to get to the point, when his cursed doll slowly and creepily moves her head to stare at the two sailors and she curiously asks "Father?". Kaneki just covers her eyes with his hands whispering to her "Don't look at it".

ANYWAY. ]

When I first arrived in Ellethia, I was contacted by the Merchant and he asked me to acquire something hidden on the Spina hunting grounds. [ Kaneki reaches for his bag, pulling out an actual beating heart. yes, still beating. ] This is what I found. It's not human and the Merchant says it's leverage. He never explained what to do with it and what sort of leverage it provides, but told me to keep it.

I am not getting rid of it nor I will let you borrow it, but if anyone wants to have a look, be my guest.

[ and that would be it. But Kaneki pauses again, puts the heart back and releases his daughter doll who is now quiet and no longer staring at the two sailors having sex.]

... Also.

I consume humans. [ there you go. kaneki looks away, pretending to be looking at the doll instead ] The crew isn't particularly happy about my presence and I don't expect you to be happy about it either. But I realize the word is going around and I figured there is no point trying to keep this under wraps. [ the Merchant's people DO carry dead bodies around for Kaneki, after all. Mr. Ishmael has passed and they kept the body in the ship. Kaneki himself is keeping a lot of undead body parts for later. Someone is bound to question things at some stage ]

That will be all. [ and he quickly turns off the video ]

For those who have heard of and are trying to find the snake-woman some villagers have mentioned, I have some information: it seems she is a "mother" and is looking for her child.

I do not know what she is and what her child looks like and I also do not know if she is dangerous, but given she prefers to flee than to attack, I suppose that says something about her. [ but then again, a lot of people wouldn't care, would they? She looks different and that's often good enough.

But Kaneki is not about to go on a moral rant about this ]

You can do as you wish with this information, naturally. [ he will judge you if you decide to hunt her ] But if anyone wishes to help her, I'd like to try finding her child or aid her somehow.

[ why, you ask? because Kaneki has shit loads of mommy issues that's why. ]

[ The video starts to show John and Kaneki, and in the background there is a doll. Before any of the two can say anything, she asks “what is that” and although Kaneki looks back at her, he doesn’t answer. John’s eyes roll briefly towards the sky, and then he makes himself smile, and look back at the camera.

It’s a tense smile. He doesn’t love being on video. He talks first, though.
]

Hi.

The two of us went to get water from the well, with the lighthouse keeper. Something was wrong, though. His reflection in the water was wrong, and he pushed us in.
[ A beat. ] Or someone did, I guess.

Anyway, we found our way out through a gate, and then we found this place, like a small safe house. There were a lot of weird things down there, but maybe the weirdest was that someone had scratched “The Truth Bows to the Sun”, in the stone. There were a lot of names written there, too. I think, the names of the dead. But there was one that was repeated, and each time it was written differently. It was Matthias, and it said he was the master of the halls.

[ John glances at Kaneki then, before refocusing on the camera. ]

I guess we wondered if anyone else has come across…anything like that.

[ while John explains himself, the doll seems frozen, her expression withered, but suddenly she moves only to start singing in a very child-like voice. Kaneki looks back at her and sighs, before he finally addresses the elephant in the room. ] We have also found a doll.

[ Against better judgment-- ] I… took it along and I’m not entirely sure what to do with it to be honest. [ the doll speaks again “Where is my father?” and finally Kaneki turns to her with a soft expression. “I don’t know, I’m sorry”, but the haunted toy doesn’t seem to acknowledge that answer and simply goes quiet again ]

Any idea on what to do with it?

[ John leans briefly forward. ]

The guy who told me he worked with spirits? If you’re around, can you look at this thing? I swear it’s like the Bride of Chucky waiting to happen. [ Kaneki can be heard in the background muttering "She has been fine thus far." ]

( ooc; this is related to Kaneki's and John's plot roll. )

For living on the road, we have the night watches covered. I was wondering who else is able in terms of cooking? What supplies will be available? I can fish or catch animals as needed. You will find meals with me in charge to be quite delicious.

[ Yes, he is that cocky. And confident. After all, his A-Xu will be eating what he cooks, so it must taste good. ]

If there are any foods people cannot eat, it would make most sense to make them known to me. Unless you wish to fend for yourself.

Since we're moving again getting lookouts organized to keep watch while the group is sleeping is a smart idea. I'm volunteering myself if anyone else wants to help out that's fine. Let me know, we can figure out shifts.

Hey. Hi, I'm new, I guess.

[ Water can be heard sloshing the sides of the boat around him. Of course, maybe you're on his boat, in which case you get to see him in person, huddled with the device in his hands and his lit candle between his knees. ]

Uh, I don't...fully understand what's going on here. I mean, I read the short version. Taravast, Sa-Hareth. I get it, I'm not in Kansas anymore.

I don't get what we're supposed to be doing. Does anyone know where we're sailing to? And they said keep the candles lit. What happens if we don't, does anyone know? It sounds like magic, and fairytales, and nothing that makes any sense to me. And why can't we sail during the day, is something after us?

[ Something's always after him. This is...well it's a new kind of horror, and it reads like something out of a nightmare, honestly, but he's taken unbelievable horror in stride before. It's just normally the product of science fiction and not fantasy.

But he can deal. Probably.

Also, he should establish allies if he can. Without drawing potential threats to himself. There's a reason this is audio and not video.
]

Name's John Dixon. Uh, for all that this is new to me, I'm a pretty good handyman, so. Let me know if there's somewhere I can pitch in.

[ Rebuilding efforts in Taravast are going slowly, but Wrathion had the bright idea to try and wrangle some of the Blood Golems that needed to be captured and make use of them.

Unfortunately... he has been running into problems.

There's a note of strained patience in the audio message when it clicks on:
]

It seems the main risk when it comes to the golems is... clumsiness, thanks to their size and strength. They have all the intellect of a newly born mammal, and just as small an attention span. They take direction but are... easily distracted.

[ This is frustrating. The distant sound of heavy footsteps is audible nearby. ]

I had --

[ Wrathion is cut off by... his own voice, talking over him from further away? It is very firmly saying CONTINUE CLEARING THE RUBBLE. The heavy footsteps pause, then sound again. ]

... I had hoped to put them to use, but they may be more trouble than it's worth.

[ He's having to watch this thing like a hawk.

For anyone in the residential area, they might spot Wrathion standing near one particular golem which is slowly helping clear a collapsed building. It has a small, glowing gem attached to it which periodically jumps to life and plays a recording of Wrathion's voice to remind it what it's meant to be doing.

He's finding this quite excruciating, but at least the golem is managing to get some work done. If you want him to direct this golem to help you, offer your own help, or just question him about it he's quite open to any of those things.
