video (un: man's greatest treasure)

[the video shows a very close up angle of her face, because someone hasn't bothered taking the pendant off to film this. there is a thin balance between amusement and panic on her face, too. she draws in a breath and:]

May have made a mistake.

[from beyond the video, a bird interrupts her confession almost on cue:]

CA-CAW

[she angles the video quickly to a murder of about ten crows in the grass, at her feet, looking up at her. she brings the video back to her face.]

Umm. I fed one. It followed me three days ago, and I had some biscuits in my bag, and I unthinkingly fed it. The next day it brought two friends over. The next day, they also brought friends over. [it's a pyramic scheme of crows.] And now this. [there's a bit more caw-ing in the background, and the camera shakes while she moves to clearly feed them again, because she doesn't know any better.]

Also one swooped down to nip at a villager's hat today because he was looking at me, so I think I might have a murder. Of crows. On my hands. [she's secretly pleased with that wordplay.]

So - that's all from me. Public apologies to the family for the ruckuss.

[ He's pretty sure he already mentioned that she could have died, but it's always nice when he gets that reaction. ]

[ There's a moment or two of silence before he sighs. He's not going to be inviting everyone listening in to his pity party. ]

...will you? Trust me, that I know what I'm doing and that I haven't exactly gone around time travelling since?

[ Of course not. He doesn't even trust the people he trusts. ]

You wouldn't be tempted, if you had the option?

[She lets out a laugh, bitter.]

You've known me long enough to know the answer to that would be yes. But I know the idea would be stupid, and desperate, and I'd rather fight for the present to have a future, than to change the whole past to something worse.

[somebadnews]

[ He is a little curious if she could decipher any of the math he's already been scrawling on the walls. He'll have to watch for that. ]

Right. [ Take it from someone who has been that stupid and desperate. ] You're better off putting your energy into your potions.

[reparo]

[Weird take, but okay.]

[ Tell her about the cuts on your hands, Five. ]

Do you have one that gets rid of curses?

[reparo]

[A bitter laugh.]

Ha - no. If only. What's yours?

[somebadnews]

[ Still thinks magic can do anything except what he wants it to do. And... he hasn't actually told anyone this, but what the hell. ]

A man sacrificed neighbors and his own son for wealth and a good harvest. Another one of their annual superstitions.

[reparo]

Merlin, that's awful. [Not even batting an eyelash.] Shame you can't resurrect him and take revenge on his neighbours and son.

[ Hm. ]

Resurrect him so I could murder him again? [ They do... technically have people for that. ] That's an idea.

[reparo]

See, I think - it's a bit hard to make up for the curses when all the people that you inherit them from were just generally horrid.

[somebadnews]

[ ...This is where it gets awkward to be a mass murderer. Maybe it's better they're not talking about this in person. ]

I don't see why the dead would care either way.

[reparo]

Well - seems they do, here. [A pause.]

Mine poisoned young brides because her husband passed away and left her sad.

They did back home too, there just aren't as many people around to listen.

[ And it was still pointless; screaming at Klaus didn't make them any less dead. Is that what atoning is? Making their dead victims happy? He... really has no idea. ]

Maybe you can ask the ghosts if they know any of them. Tell them they need to move on.

[reparo]

...the teahouse ghosts? They just want to gossip, like some enchanted, sassy mirrors.

No - no, they just remind me of the enchanted ones in Hogwarts. They talk to you, even if you don't want them to.

Yes, thankfully. The world does not need an opinionated mirror attempting to give you the make-over it insists you need.

Have you worked with any other magic involving mirrors?

[ And can she trap these ghosts in a mirror so they stop walking in on him and making him spill his coffee? Not the most important question, and yet. ]

[She thinks about one mirror, in particular.]

There was one - I didn't work with it, I just...have a friend who looked into it, when he was young. It was meant to show the person looking into the mirror that which they most desired.

[She pauses, and adds:] It's a bit why I didn't really trust the wishing door in Elletheia.

[somebadnews]

[ Interesting. Five didn't mess with the wishing door because he was... whatever, it doesn't matter what he was doing. ]

So you're familiar with them, but you don't know how they were enchanted?
