[There is a pause on her end here, before she writes out the rest:]

2/3 - hermione decides to be a story teller now

About six years ago or so, three friends who were attending the same boarding school together (magical) found themselves out of their common rooms after curfew. The school they were in, it had magical staircases that shifted and moved while you tried to climb up or down them, and though the headmaster of said school had declared the third floor to be off-limits to first year students, these little school kids - eleven years old, barely - found themselves at the a big, locked door in the middle of said third floor, because a staircase changed mid-climb.

Out of fear of being caught outside and punished (or expelled!) the witch cast a spell to unlock the big door, and our heroes fled inside.

In the dark, they waited until the patrolling Prefects and the terrible caretaker of the school were no longer on patrol.

At least, that was the plan. That they would wait, in silence, their little hearts beating wildly at the narrow escape, their breathing heavy.

Heavy breathing when this scared was not unusual, but this breathing was...loud. Very loud.

Animalistic.

With horror, all three turned, and through the crack of the window in the room, with enough moonlight to see it, the came faces to faces with a giant
three-headed dog
named Fluffy.

[this is like the best ghost story ever]

I'd make some comment about the dog's name, but I'm pretty sure Cerberus translates to, like, Spot or something. [so, who he is to judge what people call their three-headed monster dogs??] And more importantly: hooooooly shit.

So, what happened??

[reparo]

THEY SCREAMED! And the dogs growled and roared!
And it suddenly became more important to live than to not get detention, so they RAN out of that room.
Well, scrambled to run out of the room, stumbling over each other, narrowly escaping getting chomped on by one of the heads.

But they made it.
And on a different occasion, when they ran into Fluffy again, they learned that classical music put him to sleep.

How'd they run into it again? Did they go LOOKING?

[that seems to be the only way he can think of, to run into a giant, three-headed dog on a forbidden floor of a magic boarding school] And how'd they know the classical music would put it to sleep? How did they even HAVE classical music? Were they carrying around a magic iPod??

[so many questions. tell him more, tell him more~♪]

Technically yes - it turns out the dog was guarding a trap door that they needed to go through. And THEY didn't put it to sleep - someone had enchanted a harp to play music until it went to sleep.

So they snuck past.

More or less.

Wait, so who magicked the harp, then?

[he has no idea she's probably getting there. did he mention being invested enough in the story to have all the questions?]

A very evil man, who was ultimately stopped by the three. It was why they were trying to get through the trap door under the dog, there was a precious item at the end of the journey that needed to be protected.

Wrench, please, you're not supposed to acknowledge that you know it's based on experience.

BUT

They barely did. But one of the kids, my best friend, he was brilliant and brave even then, and he managed to stop him. It's complicated, though, but just know that it was also the last they saw Fluffy.

As a final note, Cerberus does stand for spotted.

But wait. How do you lose a giant three-headed dog? Like did it escape?

I don't think they lost it, I think it simply got moved by his owner to somewhere safer. For the dog, I mean.

A school full of teenagers is not a safe place for that kind of a creature.

That makes more sense.

I had this mental image of, like

the dog from Beethoven, but GIANT, bounding through the school. Slobber EVERYWHERE.

To be honest, Hagrid did have a slobbering big dog like that, only his name's Fang.

[sort of. he has a complicated relationship with otherwise adorable animals. like real complicated]

Oh - sorry. Not a what. It's the groundskeeper at the school.

Lovely man. Really understood the fact that magical creatures should be protected and cared for equally, instead of used.

I'll start with Hagrid.

[because she misses Harry and Ron too much to talk about them in specific terms, and there's that whole moment with Ron she hasn't thought or talked about.]

He's half-giant, so that means that he stands well above the rest of us. When I was twelve years old though, he looked larger than life. And he is a kind man, genuinely. He keeps the grounds tidy but he has such a love of animals that he ended up feeding threats instead of chasing them away. So our forest had big spiders.

Never mind the fact that Shelob was a demon or something, not an actual spider.

Well, acromantulas are magical creatures so technically they would be giant spiders. That can talk.

And humans were its most favoured prey, yes.
