Hello, this is Hermione Granger - you will hopefully excuse me for not using the video component of these fascinating crystals, but I find it easier to string my thoughts together in writing.
I have been thinking about potions. In the world that I come from, we have a number of them that are capable of doing many things, from healing to sobering up to allowing someone to be someone else for a few hours. They were developed by very fascinating and smart witches and wizards, however it was with local ingredients, shall we say?
I would wish to try and write down the ones I remember by heart, by dint of having brewed them so much. The question is, once remembered, would they be of any use, if the ingredients here are not the same? And more importantly, how would I test them for efficacy if not on myself?
Maybe a better use of time would be to learn to brew the ones that the local witches came up with, but I am not fond of their brand of magic - and there is the matter of cost, of course.
On that note, does anyone want completely useless corsets? Wear them or burn them, at this point I doubt anyone would care, but as tensions towards magic-wielders grow I reckon I should start pretending to be that bloody modiste.

What do you mean by 'potions', though? Is this a special, your-brand-of-magic thing, or can anybody make them?
And I'll have to take a pass on the corsets. Local fashion's not grown on me.

But in the case of potions, I have always been taught that it is a branch of magic - my particular brand of magic, that is. Everything else is just medicine, isn't it?

And you should not try any potions without someone close who can alleviate bad effects.

I've got a cauldron and stockpiled quite a few ingredients for things, at least before the undead came to Taravast there was a goodly amount of familiar ingredients available. You're welcome to go through what I've got.

Truly, I know nothing about it and should not speak as if I do. However, I would humbly accept the corsets in exchange, should you find satisfaction with the witches, that is. If not, I am willing to pay. I am in need of a new dress.

[the point here being, though, that if she wanted to test her potions on something other than herself, a rabbit or guinea pig might do it?]

Besides, I'm not trying to reinvent potions, just adapt them to this place.

I can't say that I've tried the corsets yet. I've been wearing the same leathers I arrived in.

What's your plan then? Find something that works and pass them out to the group?

Yes, actually - considering how many people are prone to getting into fights, it'll be useful, I'm sure.

I know myself, Eleven, and Sizhui have been training in the schools of healing here; I know Lady Wen Qing has a vast store of her own local to home medical knowledge, and she and Lily Evans have worked in coordination to create elixirs and medicines as they must. Eleven himself is also one who has a form of healing native to his home world, and speaking with him may also produce results.
Corset wise, I can send the rich and afflicted by uselessness your way.

But back on track.] I have a friend who has agreed to share their findings on the properties of herbs here.

[Out of caution, she changes the setting of this message, in a pause, and mentions:] Healing is not the only use for potions. I mean, it's what we'll need the most, all things considered, but I could brew one that would allow for better spying.

And what are the differences between your brand of magic and the witches brand of magic?
text
There are differences, I suspect. The magic here feels different, like it isn't altogether used to people wielding it the way I do. Wilder? It's unclear - but I don't practice mind control and necromancy, if you're wondering.
