( the voice pauses here, a bit of shuffling as they lean back and pull their quartz with them to finish the recording. ) What do you know of what happened in the salt mines outside the citadel? I found those words when I woke. Before I left them. They don't seem to happy.

( they lick their lips and sigh ) Speaking of hungry. Does anyone have food that's not fish? Or at least not cod.

Well it was Unhalad's forces that captured and tried to use us originally. I think the citizens support Anurr because they know he was human once? But his forces seem more vicious, so I don't know that he would treat them any better after all.

My view is that the dead should be left in peace, their souls free, not.. corrupted or enslaved, so I can't say I'm in favor of either.

That would be a kinder fate.

I'm surprised more people don't subscribe to that belief here. But maybe their souls are so beaten that they cling to whichever lord is left standing.

The people here don't seem to have a lot of loyalty to each other. During the raids..

They're just desperate, trying to look out for themselves, their family.

I've seen that sort of desperation before.

Well, you'd have to talk to Haltham about that. We have a few livestock, but they're too few to eat. Millet, we're growing turnips and beets despite the weather, and sometimes an egg will have to do for now. For actual food, you'd need to have coin and purchase it in town.
