( toward the evening, in a lackadaisical manner, Licyn tackles his immense dislike of magic, which is what these searing pendants are, to offer up...
... not terribly much, but he has to start somewhere, being off contract and not able to speak with those who he might contract with in order to get back to whatever disaster Rillin was left facing. therefore: )
Evenin', loves. Had myself a bit of a gander between the ships, in all the chaos we've been up to or trying not to die of. Noticed a few things. Not sure if they're telling anything more interesting than mermaids and cursed seas and wailing dead and a whale of an island swimming off, so here we are.
( his smile is practically audible now. )
Our lovely lady Pariah is so new you can smell the paint and oil of her finishing. Meanwhile, a certain scent I've encountered before is lurking around on our adoring matron the Queen Zanyra. Any of you familiar with drugs taken to calm the mind and set you dreaming? Our Queen is lightly taken to the flower dreams.

Theft, certainly, raiding ships, but using dreaming drugs at sea seems less wise than whatever rum we're carrying.

Exactly so, love! Simply put, that's the truth as I know it.

Is a new ship a bad thing? I haven't really spent a lot of time around boats.

[Kanesada sniffs loud enough to be heard.]
Huh. Anyway, the only drug I can think of off the top of my head is opium. Are they smuggling?
no subject
( sounding cheery about this, though really, he can pick up far too much as a wolf at times. most is simply not useful. )
Smuggling, perhaps, I wouldn't find it a surprise, but there's also at least one person partaking on the regular, in a light, flirtatious sort of way. Not deeply sunk into the drugged dreams yet.

[He thinks of the stable back at the Citadel and all those smells that come with caring for horses. Most notably the manure. And that's without a super sniffer! Kanesada shuddersbatnthe thought of smelling it even more strongly.]
Shit, though, like...once you start with any of that stuff, you're just bound to keep going.

( He pauses, his voice softer, slightly muffled when he finishes, )
The captain of the Pariah's made a habit of it as well. I suggest none of you get wrapped up in that business; an opiate addiction is the last thing anyone needs.

Looking to drown in dreams faster than they drown in the sea. The man was hardly sane beforehand, he's not going to become more sensible as the drug's lull him deeper.

But I can't say I blame them, if this Crossing is as terrifyin' as they believe. Some folks choose any escape over none.

Are you saying the Queen smells of opium?
no subject
( so dryly, dryly stated. hearing that the Pariah is captained by an addict in addition to the Queen Zanyra's use is not his favourite moment of the day. )

In nightly activities, certainly, but I prefer my dreams being lulled by a sense of exhaustion from personal efforts made on another's behalf. A bit different than their highs, I imagine.
( he doesn't imagine at all; addicts are addicts. he's seen all kinds, and it's not where a smart mercenary goes, or else he's controlled by a substance, not by any notion of his own. )
Mm, but this we, how many of us did know? I'm hearing surprise in these voices, and fun as it would be to think they're all in my head, love, I recognise they're not.

Also, at this point, I'd prefer any kind of smell to the stink of the crew aboard this ship and all that... fish. ( instead of being able to turn off his humanity, there should be an option to be able to turn off his sense of smell at any time he wants. that would be super handy. )

( he chuckles, though he's curious to the degree of wondering if this person's nose is more sensitive than an average humans, or far more sensitive than that. or to what extent it mattered, as long as no one was coming after him as primary target for some yet to be known reason.
possibly being a storm-struck asshole, but that seemed thin. all the nonsense of these ships in their piracy and the follower who'd burned and then been... there still, that Concord, and yet people were still largely being sensible.
unlike the island this person's mentioning. )
The whole island felt wrong long before it moved. Not one bird, insect, anything. Nothing healthy is as silent as that whole place was. Crediting these people with knowing anything about it seems a bit of a stretch, love. They'd have been laughing when we were scrambling back.
( he sounds amused by this, since he is, and it masks how deeply unnerved the whole island left him feeling. ships aren't a preferred habitat of his, but when compared to the island? even the dead crawling around, or haunting around, was better, largely because the bodied ones died, and the haunting ones couldn't do anything but be loud. small favours. )
