What funerary rites are you familiar with?

The Kaldorei cleanse a body, perform a final viewing where there is singing then take it to a resting place and grow flowers around it. Goblins have extravagant funerals with mourners and ornate coffins which they are buried or entombed in along with all their accumulated wealth. In Kul Tiras burials at sea are common, while the Tauren peoples burn their dead on funeral pyres so their spirits may return to the Earth mother.

Here, burials appear to be common I have gathered.

It's the way the saying goes - the people we lose are always with us, so long as we remember them. So yes, I fear forgetting.

The ancestor I must atone was tasked with preventing the desecration of a burial ground.

Did they neglect that task?

It seems so, to my detriment.

So what is your plan, if I may ask? Learn about burial rights to atone for your ancestor's neglect?

Not exactly. I'm researching to better understand expectations. Reading about burial rites is different to knowing how they interact with the living.

Oh, I see. Try to consider it from the point of view of the descendents, too. If you don't subscribe to the idea that the spirits linger and can get offended, then maybe the people the deceased left behind felt that hurt.

I know would absolutely hate it if anyone desecrated the burial ground of any of my loved ones.

Do spirits not commonly linger where you are from?

My school had ghosts - but it's not common, for ghosts to linger.

Death is common where I am from, and so are lingering spirits.

Would you consider it common in Ke-Waihu?

Death, or lingering spirits? I would need more data to be assured either way, but the population seem to considering it a part of daily life if the weddings were anything to go by. That points toward common.

Concerning, but also very likely true. So - are you trying to ask for suggestions for the curse?

[blackscales]

I considered this more initial research before I began focusing on the specifics of my own problem, but plenty have already offered suggestions.

I imagine the general desire is to get rid of the curses, when it comes to literally everyone from our group.

I am concerned if it's left too long, and the party moves on, it will move with us and be difficult to break remotely. It may require a local component.

[ You know, you can't atone for an ancestor remotely and all that. ]

Oh, Merlin, I hope not - I've already started to smell.

Perhaps you might mask it with another scent? Citrus or vanilla can be potent, or sandalwood?

At some point, lavender and lemon isn't disguising anything. They just mix.
