Kamala was telling me about these stories she has from back in her world. I guess it's the world I'm in now, too, though, but I haven't heard a lot of stories in my time. I just need sometime to check these stories out. [ Totally matter of fact and a little more cheerful. ] When I get back, of course. Don't know if I'm gonna start calling it my world, though.

[ She smiles again and sounds more cheerful again. ] I wanna hear about your stories. Your fairy tales and legends. Or whatever you feel like talking about.

Oh, this sounds fun! [ Rin smiles brightly. ] We have lots of myths where I am from. For example, it is said that the Emperor of Japan is descended from the sun goddess, Amaterasu.

Sun goddess? How does that even happen? Gods just go, "oooo, look, pretty human. I think I want to spend some time with them?"

It's a pretty long and involved myth, but... basically at some point, Amaterasu's descendants came to live on earth and yes, have human children there. That is the Emperor's family. There were three generations in which gods transitioned to becoming human.

Why not tell us the whole story? We have time, right.

Does this men their god powers got weaker through the generations? Or did the Emperor's line have some god powers?

I don't think they do? It just gives them authority. But even that has considerably weakened since the shogun came into power.

Actually, your human realm legends come from my world, the demon realm! Vampires... werewolves... griffins... giraffes...

That might not actually be my human realm. But got it. The universe you come from has a human realm and a demon realm.

So...how did the humans get those stories? Or do they happen in the human realm because they get free from the demon realm?

Weeeell, see, my home is on the Boiling Isles. The body of a fallen Titan! And Titans have the power to open portals between the realms. That doesn't usually happen, but sometimes... there is a rift in the barrier, and things or living beings can get through from one side to the other.

[ A beat. ]

Also, I used to have a portal which I used to gather human trash to sell at the Bonesborough market.

That's kinda cool! And if you can use portals like that in your world, maybe I could use my portal to find your world!

Then I could see these Fallen Titans, myself. Are they huge? Titans are supposed to be big, right?

Well we're all a bit fairy tale in the end, aren't we? ( River's smile is faintly amused but there's warmth behind it. )

When I was a little girl, they used to tell me stories about a demon who would destroy the universe and the girl who'd been born to stop him. Eventually, the girl grew up and she met a man, a very good man. She saw he wasn't a demon at all, and she rejected everything she knew to save him. And in return, he saved her.

We are? ( Well, when someone puts it that way, maybe they are. But America wants to hear everyone else's stories, today. )

Was the universe still in danger, though? Even if it wasn't in danger from the man she met?

Of course we are.

The universe is always in danger, and the threat they saw coming wasn't imagined. What they didn't realise was that so many times the universe stood to fall, that man was the only one who could stop it. A man who would stand alone at the end of the universe, and he never understood why they were afraid of him.

I guess I didn't think of that way. I live my own, so it's not like I want to hear more about it.

That sounds lonely. Is he still fighting that way?

Don't we all.

Yes. I think if he ever stopped, the universe might go dark. ( But it was lonely. She'd seen how that loneliness cut at the Doctor. ) Some still fear him. They always will. But wherever he goes, he always brings hope.
