In this, yes. Just like hauling me back from the port, there's no benefit in the action taken for the sake of misdirection or lies. Or in case of the original author, they've been forthright enough and candid enough that deciding to slip this into a ribbon as gift to me is curious, and not particularly dramatic. They have pointedly wanted no such trouble that would be dramatic.

Expanding to those who it may appear I trust: Karsa, through the forwarding of funds for the slave ship attack. Haltham, for having followed him out here. The money I earned for us all in auctions would further prove a tendency to trust the word of one man, who controlled in some aspect all these events: our yet unnamed merchant, of mysterious motive beyond anything not summarised as sensible desire not to have our abilities be used in a war against his interests.
