I recently spoke to the eminently beautiful Miang-Si. Quite the interesting young lady, it seems she is intent on staying young and beautiful forever. More than that, she claims she has been promised a way to do this. That she has a gift she believes can be trained to help reach immortality. An unfortunately familiar goal. As for her potential tutors, she spoke of those who can part waters and speak to ghosts. Perhaps the ladies of the lake? It would fit her sneaking out, I believe. She certainly has some magical potential, although to what end she can be taught I couldn't comment.

Our young mistress also mentioned an old friend of ours. Anui, The Huntress, who as recently mentioned was seen in was these woods. It seems in a fit of vanity Miang-Si sought her out and met her. She was... compelled by her. I'd imagine that speaks to some skill or touch of death on her part.

Interestingly, whoever her potential tutors are want something from her. They did not meet the Huntress as she did, before the local villagers drove her away. I do wonder what they think she knows, or has?

On a more entertaining note, she also appears to be convincing her father to fake his death so she can be more appealing to marry. Apparently, tragically dead parents are fashionable.

My role grants easy access to Miang-Si should anyone further need it.

I do not believe it calculated. More a thrall, in her presence. She said the Huntress never paid her attention, but she described immediately never wanting to leave her side.

Woah, sorry, when did losing a parent become attractive to suitors?

Is it like more attractive to have both parents go, or is it only a one parent type of deal? Curious minds here gotta know. ( /asking the important questions. )

Both, being an orphan is in fashion. The appearance of generosity on those marrying you into their family and taking care of you, while also not having any additional family to bother with I'd presume.

Fuck. So it's about wanting to appear generous while also being selfish as fuck? Here I thought they'd talk about orphans having some type of weird, freaky, attractive allure in their grief. Which was weird, but y'know mildly amusing.

Instead it's about people wanting to seem like generous asses while not actually having to pay any extra. Why are people like this?

I find it fascinating the lengths people will go to. Such drive can allow them to achieve both great and terrible things.

I suppose it would play nicely for sympathy. Maybe he isn't convinced and she takes a more...direct route. They will keep her in chains a few years from now.

It's possible. She did seem driven, she knows what she wants. She strikes me as a young woman with all the confidence of someone yet to suffer consequence.

Ah, yes, I almost remember that feeling. She's young. And whether her parents are all they claim or not, she clearly holds some status here.

Once, I would have been more than willing to kill my own parents, not even for power. If it's something she wants...

More than that, it's something she believes she is not just owed - but deserves.

I spoke with her as well, posing as a suitor. The tutors she told you about are almost certainly the ladies of the lake, and I she certainly knows more about them than she told me.

They live in the lake or village, but they don't like it in the forest, according to her. She said that they help the ill and infirm. She also claimed that, despite what everyone says, they aren't working against the village.

Interesting that they don't like it in the forest yet she believes they want something from her, after she met the Huntress.

I wonder if our young Miang-Si has things the wrong way around. I wonder if her new friends equally dislike the Huntress and want to use Miang-Si rather than teach her anything she desires. If that 'something they need' from her is simply using her as bait, or to better understand the Huntress in some way.

There's more. I followed Miang-Si to the lakes at night. She was greeted by skeletons who grew flesh when they emerged from the water. One of them called Miang-Si the 'queen of night' before pulling her out of her boat and into the lake.

If the ladies of the lake are themselves undead creatures, that lends credence to your theory.

It's horrible to think they're simply manipulating her. She seems so unhappy.

This village is hardly a paradise. I am not surprised she's unhappy.
