:((( I know this must be really tough when it's your first time. I was growing up when our world started to get REALLY weird all the time. Ammi and Abu always make it super clear that no we didn't always have a guy with a magic hammer fighting evil aliens trying to kill everyone. They just say they hope he doesn't accidentally drop a car on the bus again and try to make it through the day. We also didn't use to use time travel to bring back half the galaxy from the dead. I could go on forever but, yeah! It seems like a tough transition.

Also, you are making a good point about the rest of it, but for my sanity, I can't think that way. If I think what if the beacon kills me and my family and friends lose me forever, I may actually cry every day. My dad literally gave me a speech once about how I was their miracle baby because my mom kept hearing she couldn't have any more kids. They would not handle me dying well like at all. So yeah!! So we're not going there. :))) Ever. :)))
