[ Spock is wearing a hat that he's likely been seen wearing around on either ship. It's a tricorn with shells affixed to it that seems very much in opposition to the way he otherwise carries himself. He's found that wearing the gifted hat is preferable to the commentary he's gotten about his ears when he goes without it. ]
Is anyone here aware of races or humanoid beings from this world with pointed ears? I seem to cause one particular crew member to have a very negative reaction to my appearance.
[ He pauses, as if he's just remembered he's wearing a completely ridiculous hat, and ducks his head to remove it. ]
I am confident that I can handle the man should he decide to attack me, but he did make what I believe to be an inebriated threat to my person, so I would recommend that anyone else take care if they have similar features to my own.

[ Which is a little bit of a concern on such an open set of ships. ]

I believe we will all sleep much better once we are no longer on either ship.
[ Though he does agree that some circumstances are certainly better than others. ]
Between one superstition and the next, I would imagine none of us are truly welcome by all of the sailors.

( God, he wants dry land. )

[ Spock takes a moment to consider his response. The man is a doctor, so humanoid biology is likely a topic he knows well. ]
Did you know that Terran otters hold hands as they sleep in the water?

Vulcans. )
Yes, Spock, I do.

That is unfortunate. I will have to think of another fact for you. Are you familiar with sehlats?
[ His uncanny ability to keep a straight face in moments like this may be why humans do not always notice that he does, in fact, joke. ]

( He may have gained an audience– a couple of the Queen's crew, in fact, peering over his shoulder and earning a glare apiece from the doctor. )

Would you prefer I wait for a more convenient time, Doctor?
[ Because Spock had not intended such an audience and perhaps McCoy is busy and merely entertaining him. ]

( McCoy asks him flatly, after a curtly spoken "go on, git!" shooing the pirates away. )

I am on the deck approximately fifteen feet from the rear of the vessel.
[ Not that he is entirely sure why he is being asked this. He's found himself a quiet area out of the way of any of the sailors where he can feel the breeze without having to interact with unwanted company, which is not something Doctor McCoy seems to currently have. ]

I think I've shaken them.

[ It's a gentle observation, not quite laced with humor but it might just be simmering under the surface. ]

( he eyes the Vulcan. )
Are you doing all right? Aside from the threats of bodily harm?
no subject
[ Especially not if they believe in so many superstitions. ]
I am functioning adequately, but if I require medical attention you can rest assured that I will seek you out before I ask any of the sailors for assistance.
