[ Spock is wearing a hat that he's likely been seen wearing around on either ship. It's a tricorn with shells affixed to it that seems very much in opposition to the way he otherwise carries himself. He's found that wearing the gifted hat is preferable to the commentary he's gotten about his ears when he goes without it. ]

Is anyone here aware of races or humanoid beings from this world with pointed ears? I seem to cause one particular crew member to have a very negative reaction to my appearance.

[ He pauses, as if he's just remembered he's wearing a completely ridiculous hat, and ducks his head to remove it. ]

I am confident that I can handle the man should he decide to attack me, but he did make what I believe to be an inebriated threat to my person, so I would recommend that anyone else take care if they have similar features to my own.

I suppose that depends on your definition of harassment, but the other comments I have received are harmless.

[ And Spock is not overly concerned about jokes and misconceptions that end there. If the sailors want to call him a rabbit, it goes no further than a brief annoyance. ]

They always seem harmless at first. [ It's when they get together and decide being different makes you a threat. ]

I didn't expect a lot out of them, based on what we've seen. [ Not to mention how he's witnessed them treat women on board. ] I know you said you can handle them, but I have some experience in that area. You've got backup if you need it.

Your offer is noted and appreciated. If you find yourself in requirement of backup, you may similarly reach out to me. Tightly held superstitions do not create a safe environment.

You're right about that. Tensions are already high, and I don't think it's going to be getting any better.

[ And... he really doesn't think he helped with that on the Concord as much as he wanted to. But between that and his warning to everyone, it's nice to hear someone looking out for the team. ]

They weren't that much more tolerant in the last village. We had a mob chase us thinking someone was a fox in disguised, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of those same people joined the crew.

That would be unfortunate. You would think they would be happy to see you leave and not follow you onto a ship if they wanted you gone. I would be wary to trust anyone who may have followed this group, as they may see themselves on some sort of belief-based mission. I will keep a keen eye on anyone who seems too interested in any of us.

[ Spock would prefer to avoid fighting, but he will not hesitate to defend people from attack. It is unacceptable to allow others to be hurt when he can protect them. ]

We had a mixed reception by the end of our stay. They were too busy celebrating us for stopping a volcano to remember that they were chasing us around with pitchforks a few weeks beforehand.

Although the fact that there was only one ship willing to offer us a ride should have been suspicious.

[ They're really getting a reputation that can work for or against them, so someone must have wanted to take advantage of them somehow. ]

Yes, I concur. If others may pose a danger, it is logical that we work to protect each other.

[ Though Spock hopes their suspicion won't be warranted. ]

My name is Spock. I will share with you anything I may hear.

[ Logical, sure. Mostly it's just the right thing to do, but they're on the same page either way. ]

Spock. Sorry you have to deal with all this. [ Genuinely. He doesn't like being stranded at sea with a bunch of bigoted pirates. ]

If we get to our next destination in one piece, drinks are on me.

Oh, I have faced worse.

[ A pause. ]

And I do not drink, however I hope that we may find ourselves on solid land again after all of this with perhaps a moment of calm.

[ Marcos can respect that. The odds of them finding a pool hall where they can relax and have a drink is a pipe dream anyway, but Spock doesn't automatically give the impression he relaxes easily. ]

That would be nice. You'd think we'd have to run out of bad luck at some point.

[intermingled]

I do not believe in luck. Perhaps we need to find new ways to problem solve within our given circumstances, however. I will do what I can to contribute and I believe many of the others who have arrived more recently will as well. Combined with the capable group you already had here, we should be able to handle whatever comes next.

[ His voice is neutral, but he is confident. They will all do their best for collective survival and he believes that fully. ]

[ He has to smile at his pep talk. It sounds like he didn't arrive alone, and Marcos can't really disagree with him about their group. ]

I like your confidence. [ The key is getting through this without major casualties. He doesn't want to say it, but that's where they usually end up short. ] I've watched them fight off an entire city of monsters, what's a few pirates and undead mermaids?

...I don't think we'll avoid the fight this time, but if you get any ideas, I'm here for them.

I hope it will not come to fighting, but if it does, I will do what I can to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

[ It is the way he handles any altercation when he can. He is stronger than a full-blooded human and he doesn't like violence, but it cannot always be avoided and he has trained to handle it when it comes his way. ]

[ He's a little stiff, but Spock sounds like a good guy to have around. It's nice to hear that someone is willing to help as much as he is. ]
