[Set shortly after this conversation with the captain of the Queen Zanyra, Allison appears on the network. If she sounds a bit irritated, it's because she is. Caladan didn't exactly rub her the right way.]

I recently had a conversation with Caladan Kreil, the captain of the Queen Zanyra. Anduin already mentioned some of what he told me, about the nightmares and Vane seeing things, but he mentioned two other things that I think you all should know.

One, we're heading out to the place where Vane lost his last crew, and he seems to be pulling some kind of Captain Ahab routine to try and avenge them or some shit.

Two, the reward Kreil is after for helping Vane? Is ownership of the Pariah. Kreil made a not so veiled comment about how he will have say on who gets to stay on board and who doesn't.

[A beat.]

Though that might have just been his reaction to my sparkling personality.

Do you really think the Pariah is meant to withstand whatever a Captain Ahab routine is?

Well, the Pequod sure didn't.

But honestly, I don't know. He wasn't really forthcoming with a lot of details about what exactly we're up against, just that it drove Vane mad.

Not sure he gains for us being any the wiser, and his greed colours his perception, but what's new? People are like that. You'd think he would pause for longer before following a madman.

I think he thinks he can take what he wants and stay out of Vane's wake. I tried to convince him that it might be worth it to try and help Vane, but all he wants is the ship.

Not a very subtle way to say make him happy or he sees what he can feed us to while he escapes with both ships. Optimistic on his part, I'd say.

He's certainly underestimating us.

[If nothing else, the Hargreeves will make a big mess of him and his crew before the job is done.]

But I think part of him is hoping that we'll all be gone or go the way of Vane's last crew.

What, consumed by the dead who'll storm the ships in greater numbers near the heart?

[She shakes her head.]

He wants what he wants and doesn't care who gets in his way.

( Wrath has learned a great deal recently especially after his trip to the sea floor, and he does not trust Vane is who he says he is. Emilia had told him about the 'offer Kreil couldn't refuse' which included the Pariah. )

And this place where he seeks his revenge is within the Crossing?

That's what Kreil seems to think.

[But Allison trusts him about as far as he can throw him.]

I can't decide if he feels like a man who knows what he's talking about or someone who talks a big game and wants to make sure people are scared of him.

I have had little interaction with him, but an inflated pride among men is a common sin.

( a common problem. his brother's influence is widespread. )

I trust neither of our captains as I am certain you do not either. However, our options are limited in the middle of the sea as we are.

I know. Though I'll give Vane a little more leeway than Kreil at this point.

[Vane may not be in control of his faculties, and that makes him unpredictable, but that at least isn't his fault. Kreil is actively plotting against them, the dick.]

In the end, I think the only people we can rely on is each other.

I do hope this doesn't result in us having to battle a ghost-whale or whatever the haunted waters would like to surprise us with. I'm starting to think I should have gone with Plan A and chanced teleporting to our destination.

Is that dangerous if you don't know where you're going?

That is very dangerous if I don't know where I'm going. Hence, why I took my chances with the boat instead. Only time will tell if I actually made the right judgment call.

[ Spending eternity in limbo with his father is not something he'd want to risk anyway. ]

How are you doing on the Queen Zanyra otherwise?

It is possible his words to you were also caused by superstition. Many of these sailors seem to believe many strange things. One of them had a strange reaction to my appearance and I have witnessed several of them expressing concern about having women on the ship.

I have no small amount of concern, however, if this man is truly living his life by the example of Moby Dick.

[ Someone that determined will surely get someone killed in danger. ]

Well, neither captain has been thrilled with the presence of women. But Kreil at least seemed willing to have a conversation with me before threatening to hang me from his new ship.

[It wasn't direct, exactly, but she saw the threats he was leaving for his crew. And he made a comment about having plenty of rope.]

I do share your concern about Vane though. He's really not in a mental place to be calling the shots, if his general presence of mind is any indication.

Do you feel unsafe after the threats?

[ The question comes too easily. Spock is not in the habit of leaving vulnerable people unprotected, but he cannot say what her capabilities are yet and he prefers not to guess. ]

[ This... is just getting more and more complicated. Marcos was against giving up Vane, but even if they don't, their problems don't end there.

Not to mention, he's not too happy about Kreil threatening Allison. Marcos isn't the only one he'd have to go through, but he's ready to jump in if he tries anything like that. ]

I take it Vane already agreed to that deal. It doesn't sound like he has any intention of surviving this.

I don't know. I haven't actually spoken to Vane.

[So who knows what his intention is.]

Ahab just wanted revenge. And when it comes to revenge, anything after that doesn't really matter. You'll worry about it when it's over.

I'm surprised Kreil still thinks there's going to be a ship for him to take when we get down to it. [It's not looking good. He's stressed just thinking about how badly this could end for all of them. ] The Concord wanted Vane in exchange for safe passage, but I'm starting to think they aren't our biggest problem.
