[Suddenly, from somewhere off-camera, there's a few grunting noises. Kanesada glances at it and his expression darkens again.]

Right. Important matters.

[He turns the device around to show...a rabbit? If such a thing could really represent the rest of its species, what with its three eyes and...mandibles. But it just glances at Kanesada, tilting its head to the side as if questioning what he's looking at. Kanesada continues from off-screen.]

Oh, yeah, it looks all innocent now, but this...demon rabbit has been following me for, like, three nights. And I've seen it suck at least one man dry, like it's a vampire! But there's obviously something wrong with it, 'cause why would it be normal in the daytime? Does it have its own curse?

...Can demon rabbits get cursed? Wouldn't they do the cursing?

I know I oughtta just kill it, but I almost feel sorry for the damn thing.

[The rabbit perks up at that last sentence and snuffles in offense. Kanesada sighs and turns the device back to face him.]

So, yeah. If you see it at night? Run like hell, unless you're a competent fighter. And even then, I'd probably still suggest running. On top of everything else, it probably has a thick hide under all that fur.

[Even though this isn't his Hijikata, Kanesada still sits up a little straighter upon hearing that voice. The question comes out of left field, though.]

Then why are we worried about the demon rabbit instead of having it for dinner? —at least, if it didn't look like that. Still, skin it and make it into slippers. Why are you just watching it eat people?

Any other rabbit, sure, I'd eat it or make it slippers. Not that...I know how to make slippers. But this thing probably has, like, a hundred diseases.

And it's not like I stood by and watched it happen. I saw that dead man after he had already died and this thing was just slurping him up. Gross.

Point is, if it's murdering people, just get rid of it. They're rabbits. Basically rations on legs. They don't exactly live long to begin with.

[ No wonder you didn't make it into a squad, Izumi. Quibbling about killing rabbits, honestly. He's starting to think of you as a pampered rich boy who decided to slum it with the Shinsengumi for a while. ]

[He sets the crystal down, giving Hijikata a lovely view of the sky while sounds of pounding feet and rustling fabric can be heard.
