[Anduin is on the 12th floor of Zenobius' tower, his mirrors, lights, glass panes and telescopes visible in the background. The lighthouse keeper himself is nowhere to be seen.]

There is a ship.

[Anduin does not waste time with niceties. There is no time for niceties. He frowns, a troubled look on his face, as behind him Lily and Joker converse with one another beside one of the telescopes.]

It's caught in the storm and headed this way. Zenobius -- signaled them over?

[He shakes his head, as if to clear a thought (they don't have time to question that now but also what is the purpose of this lighthouse?) and strengthens his resolve.]

They'll never make it to shore. The three of us -- Lily and Akira are with me -- we saw Zenobius leave his post. He seemed... Distraught. Without any way to guide their boats through this mist, the storm, and those creatures in the water...

[His expression draws tight with concern.]

We must save them.

I don't. The mermaids were there as our boats crossed, they'll still be there.

So you think there's no worth in managing to use our gifts to send drinking water out to them and their ship, because there are mermaids who remain regardless?

[cairhien]

They should be sent supplies but if we wish for them to be safe leaving them there is still dangerous.

[weifinder]

Sending them back to their ship should have them remain outside of all areas of influence we're inflicted with, though potentially not the sway of the lighthouse. The mermaids stay close to shore, and part of their danger is how they hide in the shoreline fogs. We get supplies to those people, we get them to go back to their ship, which is well out of the danger they're happily rowing toward now, that's help. It buys time.

Of the limitations of the mermaids? Yes, if only because this land, this place we're within, offers them endless bounty each mid-day at the canals. When a meal comes easily, they accept it with the animal greed any predator might show. There's no benefit to expose themselves to potential loss. That kind of greed... that's different. They consume, not seek to destroy for the sake of destruction.

Then we clear the mist.

We need to get ourselves out there, before they get close enough to the shore that they find themselves in danger instead.

Clearing the mist would be a great favor. I was also thinking that perhaps we might... Be able to use those candles again.

[Anduin has an idea. It may or may not be terrible, but it is an idea nonetheless.]

To ward away, as they helped us. We could carry them on the wind.

On the wind?

[Anduin looks intrigued by this. He has levitation powers, but they are. Mediocre at best. He doesn’t think they’ll be enough to make it across the water, not with the mermaids underneath.]

Weaves of air will be able to take them across.

[chosenbylight]

[There is a delay in response, in the spanse of which Anduin and Wrathion are down by the water testing the idea of the candles warding off mermaids, and Wrathion is likely saving Anduin from some foolish second attempt when it does not work as he had hoped.]

I... Regret to say that the candles' magic does not function as I had thought it would. It seems to have no effect on the mermaids at all. We must think of some new plan to ward the boat across.

I don't know if the wards I know would be effective against the mermaids. But at the least you'll have clearer vision to get the boat out.
