Well, he can only maintain them for a very short amount of time. Star Master abilities have limits for good reason.

So, these clones he makes--do they think for themselves, or are they just like... meat-droids, or something?

Essentially, they are all him. They are just exact copies that exist for a few minutes, but they are him.

So... They might have an opinion on disappearing, then. Unless they don't know they're not the real one.

They're illusions. Well-crafted, solid illusions, but illusions nonetheless.

Indeed, that would be problematic in many ways, but it is not what is happening. He is not creating new life, just... multiplying himself for a short while.

And using it for mischief a lot.

I mean, I would too. It sounds perfect for that.
