So... The Dawn's Reach Company was hired to find a treasure and they decided to subcontract to pirates?

And then when it didn't work they decided to... do it again? Because that makes sense, somehow?

So who exactly is funding this treasure hunt? Because I might want to tell them they might as well just drop their money right into the sea filled with corpses and the results would probably be the same.

I do not believe the true goal was to find any treasure.

The goal was to feed the dark water beneath with as many bodies as possible. ( the question is who is truly behind this all - the dawn's reach company entirely or one individual specifically among the organization, or is the dark water itself capable of tempting mortals to it, making the company willing to make poor business decisions for the promise of what lies within. )

I also do tend to believe that this is most probably a story told to the.... subcontractors, shall we say, but then it hardly explains how one of them ended up possessing an artifact capable of summoning that beast. Plus a mirror.

It is possible the company is in on it, or that the customer deceived them all. I don't know that I'll get any answers to my questions, but I am going to try. I grow tired of mortal peril.

The man who has the artifact is the one who was sent to sea previously and lost his initial crew, whose mind was warped either by what happened or by the dark water itself. It is possible he was given the artifact either by the company or customer along with a promise of revenge or justice. Perhaps the artifact is what he returned with after his initial crew was lost.

You are right, however. The answers may not be available here though I understand seeking them through any avenue. It is uncertain how much these pirates know. We may have to go to the source for the truth - seek this company at our new location.

Some people among them know more than others, it is a matter of asking the right questions to the right people.... not exactly easy while under attack from a giant squid, undead mermaids and zombie pirates, but needs must, we shall try anyway.

If the captain of the Concord refuses to see me, I'm going to have to impose on him. Dreadfully impolite, but my delicate sensibilities will recover I am sure.

The pirates appear to care little for politeness or pleasantries as is. Few would blame you for repaying them in kind.

I would be interested in learning of this funding myself. The spirit I was able to engage said there was once a great race to secure the 'unthinkable power' found at sea. Everyone with money or skill to spare would commit to this pursuit, including governments. Fewer contenders emerged as the Crossing began to claim ships, of course.

I am unsure if I will get answers here. It is doubtful that the boots on the ground, so to speak, know much about what comes behind this, and they're probably only told what is necessary to their mission. But you never know.

Someone willing to fund an expedition here knowingly is either very foolish, or they're hiding something.

I have no doubt they were told only what is necessary, if even that. But they've lingered since, and goddess knows what they've seen and heard. It's difficult to understand them, however. They mostly wish to speak of this unthinkable power.

It seems to me that in their efforts to secure it, they have only been feeding it instead. These dark waters, you encountered something similar in Sa-Hareth, I believe?

In Sa-Hareth and in Ke-Waihu as well. And for some reason, sea creatures seem to have an affinity for these mirrors too. The mermaids have been a staple from the start.

They were drawn to the mirror, yes. Which, has it happens, was also on a ship. So we have a pattern here.

The Beastmaster himself was made by a mirror, as it's now been confirmed. I've been thinking of that as I consider this matter of the undead tongue, and who it might belong to. ( The way it lures mermaids. The way the Beastmaster could command all manner of creatures. )

But people who have seen the artefact have said it's alive. Not dead, not undead, alive. When we met him, he was already undead, and we killed him.

No. No, I don't think it's his. But the way it lures mermaids reminds me of the command he had of creatures, and it does make me wonder who it once belonged to. If Quicksilver Sam has the answer, I doubt he'd be able to say in his state.

Also, do the two body parts we have, who are in similar state, belong to the same person

Hopefully the good captain can say something before some of us get take by the irrepressible urge to throw him overboard.
