An outside mystery for you all! The wolves here aren't natural, and where the village children leave supplies at those cabins in the woods — around there smells of wolves, children, and adults. Human adults. Ever seen any venture out that way? I haven't.

If you care more about domestic mysteries, here at the estate the fireplace and feasting hall stink of bloodshed and all the emotional reasons one might have for it.

Not related, but terrible nonetheless, Julien refused even the idea of himself and his prince joined by a third in the bedroom. Pulled a Wrath and everything, cold, snippy, jealous, downright possessive. Which can be fun under certain circumstances, but might be a warning to all of you who've only seen his apparent sweetness.

What sort of application would you prefer? I think we both know what we're suggesting here...

That I prefer my conversations in soft beds and that Julien saw the prince through the time of his cursing. What, could we call him the forest's vengeance? And also it's kindness?

Perhaps it's spite. I wonder if anyone here might know a way to break a curse if we know who set it? I know one way... but it's not a way I think many here would like. As for soft beds... that could be arranged.

Does it involve murder? There's a whole number of this lot which is definitely fine with murder. Selective murder. For the, what is the phrasing, for the greater good?

It very much involves murder. Most tend to balk at the idea of killing one half of a pair of lovers... I have a bed. You're free to judge it's softness fitting enough for your standards or not.

Or marry them off, don't a number of those end in some kind of murder or another in time? It's not like we truly need to do anything. We're simply here. For now. This existed before us. Why won't it exist after?

Inviting the commentary? Where would I even find this bed, to judge its relative hardness?

Isn't that what good people do? See a problem they can solve for others and help them? I'm at the end of the guest quarters. The last room on the right.

It's what meddling people do. Good and bad are too dependent on where you stand. Outsiders solving problems? Not like we need to stay for the aftermath. How much help is that?

That's... oddly not a take I've heard before. In fact, people usually ask me to get involved even when I have other plans. Interesting... Is evening not better for a bed?

Sounds like people with more heroic leanings than common sense. Should find plenty of that here, this group is rife with that lack of sense.

Anytime is good for beds, love, just a matter of certain preferences and traditions. Evening is better for rest after. Fewer questions, fewer demands, that sort of thing!

I like hearing different takes. I don't really know how I'd define myself, so the more to help me find that the better. I'll listen for you later.

( such as it is, he does keep to his word, though he walks with just enough sound to be heard. he's not trying to be sneaky, and thus in the evening, he raps his knuckles against the door three times, in unhurried succession. he expects on some level this might be another jest (teasing, he finds, he's used to from this group of misfit chaos agents) but it's always worth treating it as if it isn't — easy to laugh it off either way, and more pleasant if it's genuine.

which is mostly to say that he's bathed and groomed and still looks like he rolled out of bed eyeblinks ago, with the exception of his shirt missing anything but artful wrinkles. of course, for all that he's not human, and looks exactly human when not in wolf form, he thus passes as human, unless one is sensitive enough to magical energies to realise he's practically a fountain of magic. endlessly generating and casting it off.

or if one scents a hint of wolf around him.

so there he is, standing, hands now loose and hanging at his sides, shirt baring throat and collarbone, sword not on his person, hair out of its queue to hand loose over his shoulders and down to the mid of his back, naturally curling and waving as it does so, pretty certain this...

... is a set up.

........ but one he can survive, and thus, hope blooms eternal! )

( Deimos may tease, but he's not so cruel as to make a prank like this. matters of the bedroom are a touch too delicate to take so far. though he wouldn't put it past... oh gods. did he forget to ask for a name? regardless! he wouldn't put it past the other man not to take his chances with a stranger.

so while Deimos isn't entirely surprised to hear the knock at his door, he is a bit taken aback.

he answers it, tilting his head at the other man as he takes him in in full now they're face to face. he stands in the doorway, stripped down to the leather pants he wears only with black tattoos showing along his stomach.

eventually his eyes rise back to the other man's and he offers a friendly sort of smile. ) We never exchanged names.

I'm Deimos. ( he steps into the room, nodding his head for Licyn to follow him. )

( his own smile is ready, lazy, not quite a satisfied expression, but certainly a relaxed one. )

Licyn Mansbane.

( neatly tying in his "name" on network as he stepped in, remaining relaxed and looking around with mild curiosity. he's more concerned about signs of escape routes (negligible, things here aren't designed for people to leave in multiple avenues), and furnishings (one does want to know one's options), and then for the hopeful lack of the scent of any fresh blood, fresh murderous intent, or hot angers inclined toward violence.

he smiles, still affably lazy. )

A lingering side effect of finding myself terribly clever in my younger years.

( idly moving closer, canting his head a touch to the side to study Deimos and quirk up his brow, observing. some invitations are verbal, some are in body language. )

I find it less clever and more established these days, love, consequence of my own making. One of the more amusing ones.

Ah, Mansbane. Like your name on the network. ( look at him learning new ways for old words. he's not out of touch yet! )

Can I ask what makes it clever? ( leaving Licyn to make himself comfortable, Deimos moves to the stand beside his bed where a bottle of wine and two glasses sit. it took some convincing to lift these and bring them to his room, but he's had more difficult asks in the past.

he pours the wine and offers a glass to Licyn, should he want it. ) Sorry if that's too personal. I just thought I might try to get to know you while you're here.

( he offers a slight shrug with a haphazard smile. ) Or we can keep this as impersonal as you like.

( he takes the wine, with an easy smile and a nod of his head, the words: thank you, love just as simple, just as easy. if anything he invites himself to perch on the bed, even pats next to him ‐ he's not shy by nature, nor by species inclination, though certainly not something he could explain so much as understand as inimical — and lifts a shoulder in a half shrug.

swirls the wine in glass, and breathes in without bringing it closer: too much more, the alcohol will simply burn his nose. he can appreciate the vintage more without that. )

That's the question now, isn't it? I thought it sounded fierce, the bane of men, as you'll have to understand that a great number of the people inclined toward the violence I'm hired to guard against tend to be men, of whatever inclination. Also an invitation for less violent, more intimate reasons. A bane of any man so inclined toward jealousy or envy.

( boiling down to sex and fighting, but not the intermingling of both. he makes allowances when it comes to people's preferences, rises to the occasions such as they are, but it isn't his own inclination. he takes another, slower sip of wine. swallows. )
