Kinda? They work for some people who disappear never to be seen again, and then they work only a tiny bit on others who pop back to their own worlds and are immediately brought back, and then they shut down before they can scoop up everybody. So... they work, but nobody would be hiring the beacons for the job of sending the group back if we had any other option.
